Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve closing table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While competing in net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He frequently plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest poker players in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be found competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in big stakes omaha hi-low and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
