Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
