Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
