Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve last game in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While playing internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world could be players you have never heard about. Gus can be seen betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in money rounds?
