Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
