Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
