Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the last poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world. While playing internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our view of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world might be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
