Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
