Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has expanded in acceptance so rapidly.
Omaha hi-low begins just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A round of wagering follows where players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of betting happens. Once all the players have either called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of wagering follows and then the river card is revealed. The players will have to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a few players get flustered. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to utilize precisely three cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the best possible hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical approach in almost every poker game.
The lower hand is more complicated, but really opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem difficult initially, after a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the basic nuances of play easily enough. Since you have players wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an overwhelming range of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have numerous players shooting for the high hand, and many shooting for the low hand. If you love a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is worth your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
