Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve closing table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest gamblers around the world. While gambling on net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in big stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash rounds?
