Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse comments from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
