Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
