Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse comments from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
