Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he enjoyed taking part in various card games when he was young. He found himself getting really aggressive in these particular card games as he was playing his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little while and moved to New York to participate in some serious chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were tough as he would play countless hours and fail to win most times. He earned some additional cash by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he possibly could improve his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He brought about an attempt to get more sleep and focus attention more on the game.

The real improvement in his game happened when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest gamblers would often wager against one another. He was able to access a number of the foremost players in chess. With their help, Howard would sharpen his cunning thinking skills. Howard applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL hold’em.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of the game as she would always be asking questions about how to make the correct decision. He told Annie Duke to move out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the best women players the poker world today. He headed to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in cash games for the following 10 years. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard made the decision to play more tournaments.
