Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse comments from others annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
