Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative feedback from others kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
